What it is

Nocturne FM is a sleep sounds and ambient radio app for iPhone. It bundles 50 curated soundscapes — rain on a tent, deep ocean, a crackling fireplace, forest streams, summer cicadas, a cozy airplane cabin, and more — in a single retro-FM player interface inspired by vintage receivers. Pick a sound, set a timer, and drift off.

Why it exists

Most sleep and white-noise apps are built around accounts, subscriptions, ad networks, notifications, or social features. We wanted the opposite — a small, private app that opens instantly, plays immediately, collects no data, and stays out of your way while you fall asleep.

Nocturne FM does one thing: play a soundscape, seamlessly, until you tell it to stop. No upsell, no tracking, no account.

The sound library

50 soundscapes across 9 categories, each tuned for comfortable all-night listening — no startling transients, no sudden volume jumps, no mechanical startle sounds. Rain, water, fire, wind, forest, night ambience (cicadas, crickets, birds, a purring cat), mechanical drones (fan, AC, ventilator), meditation drones and bells, and cozy interior spaces (airplane cabin, train car, boat, rain on a car roof).

Design

The interface is modeled on vintage FM receivers: a violet-lit chassis, a phosphor dot-matrix clock, a glowing scrollable track queue, transport controls, a volume readout, and a live "ON AIR" indicator. Each sound category carries its own signature colour, and behind the chassis a particle scene — rain streaks, drifting embers, floating fireflies, rising bubbles, twinkling stars — reacts to the track in real time.

Privacy

Nocturne FM collects no personal data, requires no account, contains no ads or analytics, and makes no network calls during ordinary use. All audio is bundled with the app and played locally. Read the full Privacy Policy.
